When I began this project I was not aware that other people had previously had a similar idea.
In 1997 the Italian linguist Stefano Bartezzaghi proposed collecting the 365 days of the year through streets named after dates.
In Catalonia the writer and puzzle expert Màrius Serra also took up the idea and encouraged readers of the newspaper Avui to search for streets named after dates.
Over time hundreds of examples were collected.
The Cronovies project is inspired by that initiative but adds three essential elements:
- a photograph of the street plaque
- the exact location of the street
- an explanation of the event commemorated, when known
It was Màrius Serra who suggested the name Cronovies for the project.
