A calendar of songs and more

Creating a calendar based on dates can take many different forms. One possibility would be to build it using songs that mention specific dates.

For example, La Oreja de Van Gogh sings about January 20, Serrat about March 20, Amaral and Celtas Cortos about April 20, and Sau about September 11.

There are also well-known Christmas carols such as the one referring to December 25, or the popular San Fermín chant: “Uno de enero, dos de febrero, tres…”.

Some songs even refer to entire months such as November, August or December.

All this shows that the calendar appears in many different areas of culture.

Another interesting idea is that of the cronoviles, proposed by Màrius Serra in 1999. It consisted of building a calendar based on the saints’ names used in the streets of a town.

For instance, Barcelona could be placed on April 27 because of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat Avenue, or on July 29 because of streets dedicated to Saint Martha.
