1640. Restoration of the independence.
It commemorates the patriotic movement that placed in the throne of Portugal to the dynasty of Braganza. From 1580 to 1640 Portugal lived under Austrian domination. Philip II was proclaimed 1580 King of Portugal with the name of Philip I. The restoration of the independence was initiated into Lisbon the 1st of December 1640 for a group of nobles who hailed John IV King of Portugal.
