1860. Piedmontese forces compel Swiss soldiers entrenched in the Rocca Paolina to surrender.
On June 20, 1859 took place the so-called "Perugia massacres" perpetrated by the Swiss regiments sent against patriotic citizens who had rebelled against the rule of the Church. On 14 September 1860 Piedmontese troops -15 000 men under the command of General Fanti- passed through the Porta S. Antonio to enter the city and conquer it, after compel Swiss soldiers entrenched in the Rocca Paolina to surrender.
