12. Februar Platz
1934. Linz and Vienna (Austria). Popular uprising.
Austrian Chancellor Dollfuss formed a coalition government with obvious signs of authoritarianism. However, the Social Democrats presented the latest signs of resistance. On 12 February 1934, the men of the Linz Schutzbund rose against government actions. The insurrection spread to Vienna and other parts of the country. The police forces - the Heimwehr - and the military had no trouble in suppressing socialist uprising. The insurgency, known as the "civil war" had ended Feb. 17. The dictatorship was a fact.
