1848. Le Locle (Switzerland). On the eve of the proclamation of the Republic and Canton of Neuchatel.
Neuchâtel republicans set out from Le Locle afternoon of 29 February 1848 towards La Chaux de Fonds crossing the Col de la Vue des Alpes. They forced the surrender, without opposition, of the royal guard of the Valangin castle and seized his arsenal. On the morning of March 1 they arrived in Neuchâtel where proclaimed the Republic.
